Initial situation

• metadata are not up-to-date, are manually maintained, significantly incorrect and incomplete
• the metadata-management system is practically unusable and impossible to maintain

Profinit's solution

Profinit delivered to the customer a solution built on the Informatica Metadata Manager tool. The solution was focused on technical metadata:

• automatic processing of technical metadata
• coverage of data flows - for the purposes of  "where used" analysis (impact analysis)
• coverage of a large range of source systems in the Oracle databases and the most important tools (PowerCenter, Cognos, ERwin)
• unique distribution - coverage of data flows in TabularSQL in reports and SQL Overrides in PowerCenter

Project results

The customer received a detailed overview of data flows in the warehouse:

• from source systems (Oracle databases)
• through transformative ETL tools (PowerCenter)
• to final reports (Cognos)
• including linkage to modelling tools (ERwin)

The solution is fully automated:

• recording of metadata in all systems
• very low probability of errors
• selectable frequency of updates
• easy to maintain and expand

The solution is actively utilised - for example, in the transition to the euro, impact analyses were fundamentally simplified thanks to the Profinit solution.
