Today's performance-oriented organisations are looking for new ways to achieve greater flexibility and to respond faster and more effectively to ever-present changes in the market. Under the conditions of today's economy, it is not safe to rely too heavily on the intuition of managers and to direct a company on the basis of a limited number of financial indicators. Managers should have a comprehensive and fully up-to-date view; there should not be local optimisation of only certain areas and indifference to the significance of the non-financial characteristics of the company.
