CDM implementation

CDM implementation is divided into several phases.

1. CDM Level 1

The basis of this level of CDM implementation is Information Sharing. This phase is the cornerstone without which none of the later phases of CDM implementation could be accomplished and includes the creation of a solution by which all partners within the CDM framework exchange data. This is followed by the Milestone Approach phase which, using the collected data, predicts the future development of a flight and, in the case the given flight is inconsistent with its plan, it generates an alarm enabling the immediate reaction of the relevant components.

2. CDM Level 2

A further enhancement of the Milestone Approach is its expansion with Variable Taxi Time Calculation. This concerns the incorporation of algorithms into the empirical expression of the travel time of aircraft (including the time required for de-icing) and specification of the further course of the flight. This mechanism is related to the Collaborative Management of Flight Updates phase, which joins the airport (or, more precisely, its ATC) with CFMU and enables flexible changing of the assigned slot based on the current situation.

3. CDM Level 3

In order to reach the last CDM level, it is necessary to implement the Collaborative Predeparture Sequence in the CDM mechanism. This involves support for optimisation of departure sequences according to current information. Finally, the CDM in Adverse Conditions phase is implemented. In this phase are described mechanisms for using CDM in non-standard conditions (e.g. LVP or in the case of airport closure) with maximum assurance of smooth running of the process and optimum use of resources.

4. CDM Level 4

In this phase, CDM is enhanced with new technologies (such as GPS) and new partners are involved into the CDM mechanism (e.g. pilots).
