The main idea of CDM is improvement of cooperation and coordination through the sharing of information among the main partners involved in the aviation business, such as ATC, air-transport companies, handling agents, CFMU and airports. It is precisely the systematic sharing of information, on which the CDM concept is built, that will lead to the possibility to better predict future events and to better plan and utilise resources.

By implementing CDM, an airport will achieve the maximum degree of efficiency with the ability to predict events far into the future and to effectively react to them. CDM brings CDM tangible benefits to each partner.

CDM also constitutes an important part of the SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) concept which sees future of civil aviation in airports networking through extensive data exchange using SWIM (System Wide Information Management).
